A Frosty Morning, A Decision Made

Yep, it is a frosty morning here in South Jersey. I'm up at a nice early-ish hour as usual these days. After doing some other tasks that needed to get done, I came back again to the idea of starting (yet another) blog.

I've started, and deleted, blogs before. The main one that I kept going for a bit was when I was in a very New Agey, spiritual mindset. It was cool and all, but after I slipped from that spiritual phase to the next, it sat there on the Internet, collecting virtual dust. So, I deleted it. I wasn't sure if I was going to try to blog again.

I've often thought of starting a new blog mainly as a way to put out a newsletter, of sorts. This relates to the name I picked for the blog. I'm originally from Texas (grew up in Austin, to be exact), but in 2007, I moved to Philadelphia. And in 2009, I moved to New Jersey, where I now hang my hat in the home that will probably be a long-term one. I have a wonderful husband, Joe, and we have five pets - three rescue cats, and two Golden Retrievers. I have a wonderful new family of in-laws, including the best Mother-in-Law and Father-in-Law a girl could ask for. (Seriously guys, I lucked out.)

However, the rest of my family is back in good ol' Texas. And my two best friends? One lives in Austin, and the other in Boston. The rest of my good friends also live in far-flung places, mostly Texas, but some even as far away as the West Coast. And as much as I love it here, it's been a bit hard to make new friends. A part of this is due to the fact that Joe and I both work from home. Again, I love it, but when the only people you talk to on most days are your husband or your pets, not counting the brief exchanges you have with the nice lady at CVS who you know by name, then what ends up happening is that you spend a heck of lot of time writing emails to your far-flung friends.

And frankly, writing emails to keep people up to speed has become almost like a part-time job. Not that I don't love my friends, and love writing to them (and I cannot imagine the awful hand cramps that people used to get when they wrote letters to everyone by hand!), but if I can put my updates in one easy-to-reach place for people, then I can focus less on updating my friends and more on writing them personal emails about other things, like what's going on with THEM.

So, here I am. I'm hoping that this will work out. And no, I'm not really a cowgirl, but it was a catchy way to tie in the Texas angle. I almost titled this "The Jersey Cowgirl," but that was taken. And you know what? I'm glad, because upon reflection, that sounds kind of like some sort of sex position, and who knows what kind of readership I'd attract with that (not that there's anything wrong with that.)

I'm not only going to write about personal updates, though. I tend to take pleasure in observing the various amusing minutiae of life, so I might write about something funny I noticed one day. Also, one of our dogs has cancer (mainly a tumor on a leg, but also a few tumors internally) and I might write about that. Sometimes I have deep thoughts about life, and I might write about that one day too. I also occasionally notice funny/interesting differences between this region of the Northeast and my home state of Texas, so I'll probably write about that occasionally too. So, put your boots up or kick off your heels, and stick around awhile. And thanks for comin' by.
